Typically, executives progress to board members. But when there are rare opportunities to transform a category and build a once in a generation company, you see Board members raise their hand to be an executive.
Today, I’m thrilled to share that Carrie Wheeler, a Board member for the past year, has joined as our Chief Financial Officer as we continue on our mission to empower everyone with the freedom to move. As I’ve mentioned before, hiring seasoned executives with the required depth and breadth of experience, are bold enough to join a startup, and care deeply about our mission is rare. So I am grateful and energized to start this next chapter with Carrie.
Carrie brings a wealth and depth of experience from her time at TPG Global. She joined TPG in its early days and was a core part of its team in scaling it into one of the largest private equity firms in the world. During her 21 years at TPG, Carrie led a number of transactions involving over $20 billion in value and is no stranger to complex, inventory-based businesses. She has worked closely with management teams and sat on the boards of numerous companies, including leading brands such as Dollar Tree, Neiman Marcus and Petco. Carrie has spent the past year working closely with me and the other executives helping us refine our financial model and helping navigate the choppy waters during the onset of COVID-19. I’m excited to see Carrie accelerate and amplify her impact here at Opendoor in her new role.
Gautam Gupta, who serves as our Chief Business Officer and Chief Financial Officer, will be pursuing his dream to start a company. Gautam Gupta has been instrumental and invaluable as our COO, CFO, and CBO over these past three years and under his leadership and guidance, we’ve serviced over 80,000 customers. Gautam will be focused over the next few months on successfully onboarding and transitioning the CFO baton to Carrie while supporting me across a few business, strategy, and corporate development initiatives through the remainder of the year. As everyone knows, I am hugely supportive of founders and excited to see what Gautam builds next.
As always, I want to say thank you to our customers who entrust Opendoor with one of the most important and largest financial transactions in their lives. We seek to hire great teammates in service of continuously making your experience better and work hard every day so you can move with confidence and peace of mind.
